What goes through your mind when you think you may have to wear the same underwear day after day? Now imagine what it's like for a homeless person.
That's why on May 27th, Welcome Hall Mission staff and beneficiaries cheered as the 2010 Got Ginch Cross-Canada Underwear Drive rolled into Montreal with 3,000 pairs of new underwear. When you consider that up to 220 men stay at our Men's Mission on St-Antoine each night in need of clean clothes and toiletries, you can imagine how significant this donation is.
The Underwear Drive was the brainchild of Calgary businessman, Brent King. When he realized that there is a constant need for new underwear at homeless shelters, he enlisted the help of friends and sponsors to deliver 25,000 "ginch" to homeless shelters across the country. He personally drove from Vancouver to Halifax in an RV stopping at 10 missions in 11 days. This year, he was joined by Robb Price, developer of www.DeliverGood.org, an on-line network that "connects charities and non-profits who need stuff with people who have stuff." Together, they delivered 30,000 pairs this year.
There are about 25,000 homeless people in Montreal alone! Thanks to individuals, corporate partners and people like Brent and Robb, we are helping these people get back on their feet. Thank you!
